Police Commissioner Keechant Sewell carried out her final ceremonial duties as NYPD commissioner.
Sewell made history as the first woman to be commissioner and is leaving her post after 18 months on the job. She made the announcement on June 12.
In a statement released about two weeks ago, she touted what she has accomplished, particularly a decrease in shootings, shooting victims, and homicides. She also spotlighted the recent efforts to reduce subway crime, helping bring it to a record low.
It is currently unclear who will replace Sewell, and there has been no confirmation of why she is resigning.
