The NYPD hosted Family Fun Day on Sunday in West Farms with the hope of bringing the community together.
The event comes to a new neighborhood each year, targeting areas that are high in crime.
Bronx residents were treated to food, games, a rock wall and other fun activities at the event on Vyse Avenue and 180th Street. Local children were able to interact with and get to know their police officers from the 48th Precinct.
Monique Johnson organized the event in partnership with the NYPD to open a conversation between the police and the community they serve.
"Once we have a dialogue, it then becomes just a little hard to violate because now we have an open line of communication and I think that's what's needed," Johnson said.
