The NYPD is asking for the public’s help to find five people who they said attacked and robbed a 23-year-old man on a southbound 2 train in Longwood. Police said it happened around 9:45 p.m. on March 7 at the Freeman Street subway station. The NYPD released surveillance video from inside the subway car showing the five people they’re looking for. Police said the group is responsible for stealing the victim’s phone and punching him in the back of the head. People in the area told News 12 on Sunday they avoid riding the subway at night. “It’s very scary because you don’t know what to expect no more, especially in New York City,” said Karen Chavez, of Concourse. “I personally don’t feel the subways are safe,” said Gregory Kortright, of Longwood. “…I don’t get on the subway after 10 o’clock.” The NYPD said the victim is expected to be OK. Police ask anyone with information to give them a call.
