Police say a father was gunned down outside his home and across the street from a mosque in Brooklyn early Wednesday.
The NYPD responded to 200 Forbell St. between Glenmore and Liberty avenues for a shooting call around 1 a.m. Police arriving at the scene found a victim lying next to his car with a gunshot wound to his head. Police identified the victim as 36-year-old father Modassar Khandaker. He was rushed to the hospital and pronounced dead.
In surveillance video obtained exclusively by News 12, someone is seen on the sidewalk just moments before the shooting. They then run down the street. Witnesses say that is when Khandaker was shot. Moments later, that same person is seen running back down the street.
Nezrul Islam, the victim's neighbor, called the shooting "unbelievable." Islam says people are scared and afraid to go to the mosque.
Residents say Khandaker was a father to a 4-year-old boy. They say he was an active member of the mosque across the street from his home.
Community activists are calling on Gov. Kathy Hochul and Mayor Eric Adams to put an end to the violence, especially in immigrant communities.
No arrests have been made. Anyone with information about what happened is asked to call police.
