The NYPD is offering tips on how to prevent tires and rims from getting stolen from cars in the area.
Two Bronx residents say they woke up without car wheels - in the span of four days.
NYPD data shows there were 23 more reported incidents of grand larceny in the Bronx, compared to this time last year.
Manny Heredia, the president of Rim's Like New, says stolen tires end up on sites like Facebook Marketplace and eBay, ranging from hundreds to thousands of dollars. He says cars like Honda, Toyota and Hyundai's are targets because of their popularity.
The NYPD says people can prevent this from happening by doing the following:
- Activate vehicle alarms
- Install high-quality locking lug nuts
- Turn your wheels when parking
- Close your windows and lock
