A police officer opened fire on a pit bull after the canine bit the officer in the head while responding to a call in Coney Island Sunday.

A police officer open fire on a pit bull after the canine bit the officer in the head while responding to a call in Coney Island Sunday.
The incident happened inside of a house on Neptune Avenue.
According to police, they were originally attempting to stop a man who they believed was armed with a gun. That man then ran into the house, and an officer pursued him.
A pit bull came out of the residence and bit the officer in the head.
Shots were fired and the dog was struck with a bullet.
The officer was taken to a local hospital and is in stable condition.
The dog was also taken to an animal hospital.
The details of the incident are still under investigation.
