A police officer suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the leg in Edenwald on Wednesday, according to the NYPD.

Law enforcement officials say the incident took place inside of 1161 East 225th St. Police have since determined that the wound was self-inflicted and that the officer accidentally shot himself.

The officer was transported to a hospital and is expected to be OK.

The incident is now being reviewed further by the NYPD Force Investigation Division.

This is a developing story.
