The NYPD is taking steps to ensure the safety and security of New Yorkers ahead of Inauguration Day on Jan. 20.
The deputy commissioner of intelligence and counterterrorism announced that the NYPD will be sending 200 officers to Washington, D.C., where they will undergo training and then be deputized as federal law enforcement officers.
In New York City, the NYPD says there are no specific or credible threats following the riot at the Capitol last week.
The NYPD says there will be additional police resources and security around City Hall and government buildings next week just as an additional safety measure.
The department is also keeping busy and working with the FBI to continue uncovering leads and identifying people who may have been seen on photo or video storming the Capitol last week.
The NYPD says it will be assisting the Department of Homeland Security to continue monitoring for potential threats or unrest.
