The NYPD has announced plans to rename its Police Academy after a fallen officer.
Det. Steven McDonald of Long Island was shot while on the job in 1986. He was paralyzed from the neck down for more than 30 years. He died in 2017.
The Police Academy in College Point will be renamed on July 16, making 42 years since Det. McDonald joined the Academy.
