J’ouvert and the West Indian American Day Carnival will take over the streets of New York this Labor Day weekend, and the NYPD gave an update Thursday on their priorities to ensure your safety.
Officials say they’ll be sending out thousands of officers who will be working throughout the weekend to ensure that this year is much like last year, which they say was one of the safest Labor Day weekends on record.
“For anyone who thinks they’re going to come into this community this weekend with bad intentions… our officers will be diligent, visible, and some won’t be visible,” said NYPD Chief of Patrol John M. Chell. “They’ll be firm but fair to make sure everyone has an enjoyable weekend.”
The NYPD also warns New Yorkers to be mindful of street closures, saying the 13 designated entry points along the route will have officers ready to wand and search those celebrating.
