NYPD: Shootings in 3 Bronx precincts up as overall crime is down citywide

Compared to last year, NYPD data shows out of the three precincts, the 52nd Precinct has the highest increased number of shooting incidents at six. The 46 Precinct has the highest number of shooting victims at 51.

City data shows shootings are up in the 46th, 48th and 52nd precincts in the Bronx.


Council member Oswald Feliz is calling for more NYPD officers on the ground in these areas.

Compared to last year, NYPD data shows out of the three precincts, the 52nd Precinct has the highest increased number of shooting incidents at six. The 46 Precinct has the highest number of shooting victims at 51.


Feliz says safety is not only important for the community, but also for businesses.

"These are spaces that our public people could go in and out at almost any time. And we've seen issues related to safety, including retail theft, quickly escalate." said Feliz.


People News 12 spoke with say they feel safe in their neighborhood but aren't opposed to more police presence.

Feliz says safety is a shared a responsibility and is in discussions with NYPD about how they can address concerns in these neighborhoods.
