Police released survaillance images of a man who they say attacked a passenger with a machete on a northbound 2 train early Saturday morning. The incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. just before the train arrived at the Allerton Avenue station.

Police say the suspect attacked a 31-year-old man with a machete, striking him multiple times on his hand before running away.

The victim is expected to recover from his injuries.

Police were still searching for the suspect as of Saturday night.

This attack comes just a week after a fatal stabbing on the 2 train, where a fight between two men last Saturday ended in the death of 33-year-old Nigel Dumas.

The suspect in that case has been charged with manslaughter.

Local residents expressed growing concerns about subway safety, with some opting to drive instead of taking public transit.

"People are getting slashed and shot on the tracks. We’re not going to stand for it," said Allerton resident Jerome Mendez.

According to city data, subway crimes in the Bronx have increased, with 40 more incidents reported this year compared to last. Police are continuing their investigation into the latest attack and urge anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
