New York City wants to make sure New Yorkers stay safe this holiday weekend - not just from the coronavirus and dangerous fireworks, but also from impaired drivers. 

Fourth of July weekend is a time to celebrate, but it is also a time where drunk driving is a big concern. 

The NYPD is putting more highway safety officers on the road. In New York, about 3,000 New Yorkers are injured and more than 200 are killed every year from traffic crashes, according to the city Department of Transportation. 

This is why Vision Zero was started in 2014 to bring more awareness to everyone on the road, including people outside of a vehicle. 

NYPD and city officials want to remind New Yorkers that we are still facing a pandemic and to stay safe on the street.
