16h agoTaxi drivers in New York City say they’ve had enough after a string of carjackings and robberies in the Bronx and Brooklyn.
A 70-year-old Bronx victim says he was held at gunpoint by a man and woman who beat him up and stole his keys at 1775 Bruckner Blvd.
The New York State Federation of Taxi Drivers say that five of the carjackings happened in the Bronx and one happened in Brooklyn.
One Brooklyn driver, Juan, tells News 12 he had to get six stitches after being attacked by a group of teenage riders in East New York.
Police sources tell News 12 that some of the suspects in the robberies were wearing masks at the time of the crime.
“I’m not saying to go out there and discriminate. What am I saying is that if you cannot see that person’s face, don’t feel obligated to pick that person up,” said Fernando Mateo, of the NYS Federation of Taxi Drivers.
The state federation is now calling on rideshare apps like Uber and Lyft to place better protections for its drivers.
