Multiple families have been displaced following a devastating fire Tuesday in a Soundview apartment building.

The FDNY responded to the fire at 1471 Watson Ave. just before 2 p.m. According to fire officials, the fire quickly spread through the building. About 138 first responders were at the scene to get those flames under control.

Two firefighters were reported to have minor injuries from the fire.

It’s still unclear what started the fire, but officials say it began at the top floor of the six-story building. Four units were extensively damaged by that fire.

Members of the American Red Cross arrived to provide support for the 15 families affected. The residents whose apartments were untouched by the flames were able to return to their homes safely.
