Over 100 firefighters responded to a large fire at a New York City Housing Authority apartment building in Soundview on Tuesday afternoon.

According to fire officials, two firefighters were injured while trying to control the flames and were sent to Jacobi Hospital.

First responders say that the fire started just before 2 p.m. on the sixth floor of the apartment building located at 1471 Watson Ave., and that four apartments on the floor suffered serious damage.

The FDNY says that the fire started in the attic of the building and spread to the cockloft and the four apartments.

Power lines were seen caught on fire after making contact with the flames, and the look and smell of smoke extended for many blocks. The Red Cross says they are providing assistance to 15 households at this time.
