Officials say one woman is in critical condition and 20 others were injured when a two-alarm fire broke out at the Elias Karmon Housing Complex in the South Bronx Sunday afternoon.
Three firefighters and at least two children were among the injured.
The call came in around 12:30 p.m. for a fire on the second floor of the six-story building.
Officials say the fire started in apartment 2-J. People who live there say there are no fire escapes in the building, making it hard for them to get out.
The fire was placed under control around 1:30 p.m., officials say.
Neighbors who know the woman who was critically injured say she lived in the building for 12 years and doesn't have a working fire alarm.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The latest fire comes after three people were killed in three separate fires in the Bronx on Saturday.
