Bridgeport authorities say they have shut down a drug factory near a school following months of complaints about crime in the area.

After an extensive investigation, police say they seized more than $4,600 in cash Wednesday afternoon, along with oxycodone pills, crack cocaine, guns and hundreds of rounds of ammunition.

The raid comes in response to months of complaints and an emergency community meeting back in October, when Police Chief AJ Perez assured residents that the police department heard their complaints and would follow through with action.

Mathew Barkley, 23, of Bridgeport, was arrested and is accused of operating a drug factory and selling narcotics a block away from Blackham School.

Investigators say they have no doubt many of the problems raised at the October meeting stemmed directly from the activity surrounding the contraband.

Residents say more needs to be done, but the raid was a good starting point for the fight on crime in the North End of Bridgeport.

Police say Barkley is being held on a $100,000 bond.
