Officials: Man killed couple, their dog before setting Wappinger house on fire

A man has been charged with murder in the deaths of a couple in Wappinger, officials say.

Robert Buda is accused of killing Paul and Jo-Ann Hait, ages 63 and 65, respectively, as well as their dog, before setting their house on fire.

Buda was previously charged with arson in connection to the fire at the victims' home on 78 Marlorville Road on Sunday.

He is now charged with murder and aggravated cruelty to animals. His initial charge of arson has also been upgraded.

Buda was arraigned before the Town of Wappinger Court and has been remanded to the Dutchess County Justice and Transition Center with no bail.
