A manhole explosion in Melrose Friday night left seven people injured.
Police say four police officers and three civilians were hurt. They are all in stable condition.
Con Edison was still on the scene Saturday morning, in addition to a construction company who will be fixing the damage after a fire caused the explosion.
FDNY officials say reports of a smoking car came in at around 7:30 p.m. last night.
The smoke was actually coming from the manhole underneath.
Con Edison says a police officer was helping a woman get out of the car when the explosion happened. The incident didn't cause a power outage, and no carbon dioxide was reported to have been released.
Con Edison says a probable scenario on what caused the explosion could be that something wet got into the manhole and came into contact with a frayed cable, igniting a fire that could've escalated into an explosion.
