A mechanic in the Bronx was killed Thursday morning when an elevator he was working on fell onto him.
According to the Department of Buildings, mechanics were modernizing an elevator at 133 East Clarke Place when it fell down the shaft and fell onto the 25-year-old. The elevator was out of service at the time.
He was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
A second mechanic was apparently injured in the incident.
It appears there are five open violations on that elevator dating back to 2002, the most recent of which was for a missing door lock monitoring system that was issued in Jan. 2020.
