3h agoAnother inmate has died while in Department of Correction custody on Rikers Island, according to officials.
Gilberto Garcia, 26, was pronounced dead Monday afternoon at the Anna M. Kross Center. He was serving a sentence for robbery.
He is the 18th inmate to die in custody or soon after being released from DOC custody.
The cause of death is unknown at this time.
