The uncertainty of a Bronx supermarket's future has residents on edge as the coronavirus outbreak continues to spread.
The Key Food located on Riverdale Avenue provides what officials say is critical access to fresh food and essentials during the pandemic.
Both Councilman Andy Cohen and Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz say unanswered questions about a lease renewal and potential renovations to the store has shoppers concerned.
Both officials say they have been given no assurance that the store will remain open during the virus outbreak despite multiple efforts to reach out to franchise owner Kevin Luna and the landlord, Braun Management Group.
Cohen's office says it heard back from Key Food, which pledged to stay open during this time of need. Prior to their response, Cohen called for more transparency.
All non-essential businesses are ordered to close their doors by 8 p.m. Sunday night. Grocery stores are among essential businesses that will stay open.
Officials say taking Key Food out of the mix would put pressure on other stores and have a direct impact on North Riverdale.
News 12 reached out to Key Food and Braun Management for comment.
