Gov. Kathy Hochul and Mayor Bill de Blasio say the COVID-19 omicron variant has now reached New York. 
The governor says one case was reported in Suffolk County, a 67-year-old woman with mild symptoms and vaccination history– and at least one person traveled from South Africa. 
Cases also confirmed Thursday: 
  • Second case reported in Queens, vaccination status unknown at this time
  • Third case was also Queens-based 
  • Fourth case reported in Brooklyn 
  • Fifth case reported in one of the five boroughs
