An overnight shooting in Tremont killed a teenager.
According to officers, police responded to a 911 call Sunday for a shooting at East 178th Street and Valentine Avenue at 11:36 p.m.
Police found the victim with gunshot wounds to his head and chest. He was transported to St. Barnabas Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police identified the victim as 16-year-old Ramon Gil Madrano. Police say the teen was in the back of a black Toyota livery cab just before midnight when two people on scooters came to the cab's rear window and shot him multiple times before taking off.
Police believe these two incidents were gang-related. Both teens died just a mile apart from each other.
"Right now, I feel really unsettled and I'm looking around. Everything looks different," resident Tankeeka Wilder says. Today was Wilder's first day heading back into the office after the pandemic. With gun violence up across the entire city, she is hoping local government steps in to make a change.
"I just want an end to it, and I really would like the city to do much more in terms of alleviating the fears and creating stronger safer communities," Wilder added.
There are no arrests at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
