One Fair Wage, awarded several restaurant owners with grants, training and technical assistance programs on Friday.
The Black Bodega, a restaurant on 167th Street in the Bronx, is one of five restaurants to receive the $10,000 grant. They say it will allow them to hire two more employees and boost their wages.
In New York, businesses are only required to pay tipped workers the subminimum wage, which is between $7.50 and $8.65 per hour.
