The call to stop the building of a casino in Coney Island continued on Wednesday as neighbors clashed on the impact it could have in the area.

The companies behind building the casino see this as an ace in the hole for the neighborhood by bringing more jobs, people and money. Meanwhile, those against it say the economic benefits from the casino will be minimal at best and could possibly increase crime in the neighborhood.

When the plans were first announced, Coney Island neighbors clashed at a community forum held by Brooklyn Community Board 13 arguing one side and the other. 

At Wednesday's meeting, close to 200 people filled out Gargiulo's Restaurant to voice their opinion. Limited safety resources, crime, and traffic are just some of the concerns among residents who don't want to see this plan go through.

Backed by real estate giants Thor Equities, Saratoga Casino Holdings and Chickasaw Nations and Legends, the proposed project would stand close to the iconic boardwalk.

Frustrated residents also took to outside to rally against the casino, hoisting signs and chanting outside of the community forum.

As for whether or not the casino is in the cards for the neighborhood, no one has received a license for the casino yet. Developers say that the application process is competitive, with several applicants vying for just three downstate New York casino licenses.
