The Department of Health and Mental Hygiene says that 81% of overdose deaths in New York City are caused by fentanyl.
Charles Madray, vice president of health services and community programs at the Samaritan Daytop Village, says the organization is a one stop shop.
The Samaritan Daytop Village offers substance-abuse treatment, care, coordination, and a peer recovery center.
Albert Apontes, a peer service supervisor at Samaritan, says his job is to go out into the community and help people get into treatment.
However, he says since some people aren't ready to get clean, they offer free Narcan kits and teach the community how to administer Narcan if someone is suffering from an opioid overdose.
Narcan also known as naloxone is readily available in local pharmacies and aims to help save lives.
