Tenants inside a Starling Avenue apartment building in Parkchester say the building’s only elevator has been out of service for two weeks.
Residents like 80-year-old William Gonzalez say not having an elevator has put their life on pause.
"I can't get out of the house. I miss doctor’s appointments. I can't go to the store and buy food. I have to call other people so they can come upstairs and do the favor for me," said Gonzalez.
Residents say that most of the time, the door to the stairway is locked. The building’s superintendent says it's for security reasons, but residents are worried about safety.
"What happens if the doors are locked and there's a fire? The super may not be around," said Gonzalez.
News 12 reached out to the management company, Residential Management, but they declined to comment.
