More than 20 dogs and cats have arrived on Long Island from South Carolina Sunday as part of a rescue mission.
The animals came from Lakeside Animal Rescue in Orangeburg, South Carolina.
The rescue was made possible by a partnership between the North Shore Animal League of America and Amelia Air Animal Rescue.
Shelter workers explained that by placing the animals on planes and flying them over rather than transporting on land is less stressful for them. This, in turn, helps adopters get healthier and happier pets.
