A Park Slope firehouse, Engine 239, has recruited a new member - a 3-month-old piglet named Penny.
The pig’s owner, Darren Harris, says she likes to snack and loves to spend time at the firehouse.
When the firefighters must leave for a call, Penny is responsible for watching the firehouse.
"She goes into the house watch and she waits for us to come back,” says Harris.
He says firefighting is a stressful job and the piglet offers some emotional support to the team.
Right now, Penny is only about 9 pounds but by December they expect her to weigh about 50.
