A Park Slope jewelry store was robbed of approximately $2 million in diamonds on Sunday, and the owners are picking up the pieces.
Windows at Facets Fine Handcrafted Jewelry that once were covered in diamond pieces now sit empty. The owner says that three thieves came into the store with a hammer, and in less than one minute robbed them of millions of dollars’ worth of engagement rings.
The incident took place just before 5 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 8. Three masked men entered the store and smashed the glass casings that contained custom-made engagement rings.
Irina Sulay, the chief operating executive of the jewelry store, says she and her colleague were present with a client at the time of the robbery.
“They walked in and walked around the case, and that guy started pulling something out of his pockets… and started smashing the cases,” said Sulay. She says they did not call 911 during the crime because her and the other people in the store were told they’d be shot if they did.
Facets Jewelry Store will be closed temporarily, and say they plan to hire a security guard and increase their security systems.
