Parkchester condominium tenants are raising concerns about their recreation facilities and say some areas have been closed for months - or even years.
Four-year-old Catherine is stuck riding her bike, making little laps, because she can’t play on the swing or slide.
“The park is closed all day!” said Catherine. “That makes me frustrated!”
Her mom, Jessica, said the playground near their condo has been locked for more than a month.
“[Catherine] can’t get her energy out, so she’s bothering me at home,” said Jessica. “She doesn’t get the socialization with the other kids.”
Tenants said another playground on the property has been kept closed since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
And a turf field, as well as one basketball court, have been closed for years.
“[Tenants] see the facilities, but they don’t have access to it,” said tenant Bobby Lee.
There are some accessible recreation areas on the property, but Jessica said it depends on where you live on the complex.
“You have to have a key fob for that to get into that playground, which I don’t have,” Jessica said.
So for now, Catherine will continue to ride her bike in little lap as she waits to play on her playground again someday.
“I asked public safety if they were going to actually open up the parks, and they said all the parks are closed until further notice,” Jessica said. “Never gave me an answer why.”
News 12 reached out to Parkchester Management for comment, but it did not respond as of Tuesday night.
