Cameron Kasky, a survivor of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School mass shooting in Parkland, Florida that killed 17 and injured 17 others, launched his campaign Tuesday for Rep. Jerry Nadler’s seat in New York’s 12th District.
The Democratic candidate helped lead the March For Our Lives movement that aimed to curb gun violence and reform gun laws.
Why is Kasky running? His campaign website explained:
“As a school shooting survivor, I began my life calling for an end to the mass murder of innocent children and adults using weapons manufactured by the United States. Witnessing the ongoing genocide in Gaza has served as a haunting, serious reminder that it is my life’s purpose to advocate against violence everywhere.”
Also key to his campaign will be Medicare for all and abolishing ICE.
The NY-12 seat being vacated by Rep. Nadler is attracting a large swath of interest. Declared candidates include John F. Kennedy’s grandson
Jack Schlossberg, journalist and attorney
Jami Floyd, Erik Bottcher, Laura Dunn among others.
