A Bronx man was indicted for allegedly sneaking a loaded gun in the Bronx Hall of Justice, according to Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark.
Prosecutors say 26-year-old Jamal Frett was on parole for attempted murder when he was allegedly busted with the firearm. It happened at around 11 a.m. on Sept. 21.
The incident unfolded when Frett caused chaos in the courtroom at the hearing his "associate," according to investigators. According to law enforcement sources, Frett has gang ties.
The DA's office says Frett yelled at a court officer who asked him to remove his hood. The disruption caused the hearing to come to a halt.
Court officers then removed Frett from the courtroom and took him into the lobby, where prosecutors say he resisted arrest.
According to the DA's office, officers took Frett to a holding cell, patted him down and discovered the .380 semi-automatic Ruger pistol loaded which contained five rounds in its magazine.
Prosecutors say Frett is charged with criminal possession of a weapon, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct charges.
“This defendant was on parole when he allegedly snuck a loaded gun into the Hall of Justice. He then proceeded to cause chaos once inside the courtroom, resisting Court Officers’ demands," said Clark. "I thank the Officers who discovered this weapon on the defendant after performing a pat down search.”
Additional details about Frett's attempted murder charge were not immediately available.
He was arraigned on Wednesday and is due back in court on Dec. 10.
