Passaic County Water Commission begins removing lead services lines in Prospect Park

Some Prospect Park residents can soon expect an upgrade to their water pipes.
The Passaic County Water Commission is working to remove and replace lead services lines. The commission is targeting 180 lines. They will also check 75 homes where the pipes are made out of an unknown material.
"Residents of Prospect Park should know that removing lead lines from the Borough is a matter of public health and safety and comes at no cost to our residents…replacing lead lines in your home can normally cost upwards of $10,000," Mayor Mohamed Khairulla said in a statement.
The mayor is also urging residents to allow inspectors into their homes to identify what kind of material their pipes are made of. Lead is especially dangerous to pregnant women and children.
