Paterson’s Protective Health Gear works to keep up with demand of N95 respirator masks

When the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention made the recommendation to switch from cloth masks to the N95 masks for better protection against the highly contagious Omicron variant, demand skyrocketed.
Protective Health Gear in Paterson say they are trying to keep up with the demand. Employees have been producing up to 70,000 N95 masks every day.
CEO Brian Wolin says keeping up with the demand has become complicated.
“We’re flying in machinery and materials and rushing as fast as we can,” explains Wolin. “It’s just not that easy to ramp up when you’re making something that’s so serious as a product.”
The N95 respirator masks are designed to filter out 95% of air born particles when worn correctly. The CDC says the more snug the mask is, the better it is.
“Having a head harness helps to suction it your face much better,” says Wolin.
There has been concern about the masks being certified N95 masks.
Wolin says you can tell if the mask you have is certified is seeing if it has the harness so that it goes behind the head instead of using ear loops.
The company is hoping they can ramp up production to make up to 110,000 N95 masks every day.
