As National Gun Violence Awareness Month comes to an end, community organizations came together in Canarsie to encourage kids to start their summer on a positive note. That's why they held Peaceful Summer Fest 2024 at I.S. 68 Park.
“Canarsie is a beautiful community overall," said Andre T. Mitchell-Mann, CEO of Man Up! INC. USA. "The overall majority of Canarsie is great people, hard-working people and they have been dealing with some violence, and we’re working to reduce the violence.”
The event which promotes peace in Brooklyn comes on the heels of two back-to-back shootings in the area.
“We know that sometimes violence does go up in the summer,” Mitchell-Mann explained. "We, the community, want to get in front of it. We want to promote performances. We want to put on events like this that we know from experience reduces gun violence.”
