A pedestrian was fatally struck on the Grand Concourse Monday morning.
Officials say it happened just before 5 a.m. on the Grand Concourse and East 192nd Street.
The victim, a 52-year-old woman, was hit while trying to cross the street.
Police say the driver of the 2005 Acura who hit her remained on scene, but was taken into custody for a suspended license.
The driver has been identified as 52-year-old Joseph Chasley, of Connecticut. He is charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
The victim was taken to St. Barnabas, where she was pronounced dead.
The last fatality at the intersection was in 2014, according to the Department of Transportation. The DOT says there were two pedestrian-involved accidents ending with severe injuries at the intersection between 2013 and 2017.
