Pelham Parkway residents gathered at Bronx House on Monday to honor the second day of Hannukah and remember the lives lost in Australia during a terror attack over the weekend.
Officials confirm 15 people were killed and over 40 people were hurt after two gunmen, a father and son, fired at a group of people celebrating the start of Hannukah at Bondi Beach in Sydney.
"We want to show we can survive…despite the act of the weekend. We still are here. We are enjoying the holiday, and we will still remember those that unfortunately were killed this weekend," said Rabbi Moshe Fuchs.
Elected officials also joined the event to reassure residents worried about their safety.
As Hannukah celebrations continue throughout the week, Mayor Eric Adams and Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch announced a ramp up of security and an “enhanced uniform presence” at houses of worship.
