Sunday’s March is Music series performance at the Pregones Theater in the South Bronx featured Yiying Niu, who says she’s been playing piano for two decades, since she was 6 years old.
The March is Music series features nine live concerts by world class artists who play music from different genres like Latin, jazz, and classical.
Niu is originally from China. She says she came to the U.S. to study at Juliard. Now she's a renowned pianist.
Her performance on Sunday focused on love.
"I chose [Franz] Schubert and [Franz] Liszt because they all portray romantic love and I think I'll just insert something very different in between, like a break between those love stories, so I chose [Claude] Debussy for that," she explained.
Not only does Niu perform but she also teaches students how to play the piano.
"I have some private students and also, I teach at a school as a T.A. So I really love working with students, especially kids. They're very cute," she said.
