A 15-year-old boy was fatally shot Wednesday afternoon in McLaughlin Park in Brooklyn, according to police.
The shooting took place near Brooklyn Lab Charter School, the same school the victim attended.
The CEO of Brooklyn Lab Charter School says they will have professional counseling available to students on campus today, on top of the social workers they already have on campus every day. They've also requested extra police presence at dismissal.
Police continue to search for the person who shot and killed the victim. He’s been identified as Unique Smith.
Authorities say he was dismissed from Brooklyn Lab Charter School at 1:30 p.m. and went to McLaughlin Park. Smith was sitting on a bench with two teenage girls when two people, who police believe were two teenage boys as well, walked up and started arguing with Smith. The verbal dispute turned into a fist fight, according to the NYPD. One of the teens put on a ski mask in the middle of it, pulled out a gun and shot Smith in the chest.
Investigators add there were at least 30 other people in the park at the time, and many saw what happened.
Those two teenage girls were brought in for questioning.
Police are still searching for the suspects and urge anyone with information to contact them.
