2h agoThe NYPD is currently investigating a shooting at the Red Hook Houses that left two people injured.
Nineteen gunshots broke out along Columbia Street just before 11 a.m. on Thursday. Police say two suspects were on the sidewalk shooting at each other, when one of the bullets hit a NYCHA employee in the leg.
The NYCHA employee was not the intended target of the bullet, according to investigators at the scene. The motive of the incident still is unknown.
Police say that the 33-year-old NYCHA employee victim is in the hospital recovering and is expected to survive.
One of the suspects, a 52-year-old man who was shot at the scene, is currently in critical condition. Detectives say they found a 9mm gun near him.
“Our NYCHA employee is across the street providing for himself, providing for his family. He’s in conversation with his supervisor at the time the shots were fired, and he’s struck,” said one neighbor who was visibly upset at the incident. “He could’ve been anyone, he could’ve been a child. Super reckless and deeply, deeply concerning.”
The 52-year-old suspect is known in the 76th Precinct and has multiple prior arrests. No arrests or charges have been filed in connection to the incident.
