A 20-year-old man is dead and a 36-year-old woman was sent to the hospital with gunshot wounds after a shooting in East New York Thursday night.
Police say the shooting happened around 6:45 p.m. outside 41 New Lots Ave. They say the 20-year-old was shot in the head and pronounced dead at the scene.
Neighbors say the 36-year-old woman was an innocent bystander. She is now recovering at Brookdale Hospital.
Witnesses say they saw a getaway car parked outside the plaza residences, where News 12 is told both victims lived.
One person tells News 12 they believe the deadly attack was an act of retribution stemming from an altercation that happened a few days ago.
News 12 spoke with the cousin of the 36-year-old victim who was shot and survived who said she has reason to believe this was not an accident.
She says it is no excuse for another deadly shooting in Brooklyn. Many people say they counted around five shots in the deadly attack.
The identity of the 20-year-old victim is being held while his family is notified.
