A 5-year-old boy nearly drowned in an East Moriches pool on Wednesday, police say.
Suffolk County detectives say it happened around 4:30 p.m. at the child’s home on Westcrest Drive.
A neighbor, who previously volunteered with East Moriches EMS, gave the boy CPR.
That neighbor’s son, Benjamin Boerum-Ruhl, says when the family found the boy, they immediately went to his house for help.
“I believe he fell in the pool and his little brother found him and then Wendy, the mother, ran over here, contacted my parents, while we were out, for help and my mom rushed over, did CPR, did as much as she could,” Boerum-Ruhl says.
The woman who performed CPR on the boy told News 12 off-camera that medics found a pulse while en route to the hospital.
The boy was first taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center and is now being treated at Stony Brook University Hospital.
His condition is unknown.
