An 8-year-old boy was critically injured when he was struck by a car that was backing out of a driveway in Mount Hope, police say.
The incident happened Tuesday as the child was playing on Webster Avenue near Ittner Place around 4:45 p.m.
The car was leaving an auto-sound shop.
Emergency medical services took the boy to New York Presbyterian Hospital Columbia in critical condition.
Police say the driver stayed on the scene.
Officials say they believe the driver and child knew each, but were not related.
