The New York City Drug Enforcement Task Force busted a large-scale heroin operation, taking $2 million worth of the drug off the streets Wednesday.
Law enforcement agents uncovered nearly five pounds of powdered heroin and thousands of glassine envelopes with the drug in them in a fourth-floor apartment on 547 E. 168th St. in Morrisania.
Police conducted an investigation and eventually obtained a warrant for the bust, stopping the packaging operation.
Some of those involved attempted to flee, but police tracked down all involved, arresting a total of 10 people. They were all charged with first and third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.
"Collaborative investigations like this one underscore law enforcement's collective commitment to end the opioid epidemic," says NYPD Commissioner James O'Neill.
