Several people were hospitalized Saturday after a police chase resulted in multiple crashes in Soundview.
Authorities say that around 10:30 a.m., a speeding Lexus RX SUV failed to yield during a traffic stop on the Bronx River Parkway.
A highway officer then pursued the vehicle off the parkway and onto the Bruckner Expressway service road.
The driver, identified as Miguel Martinez, allegedly ran a red light on Rosedale Avenue and was hit by a van that had the right of way.
The 52-year-old then lost control of his car and struck a pedestrian pole before fleeing the scene, police say.
Multiple officers soon responded to a call for backup. That's when officials say one of the assisting police cars hit a Chevrolet truck at the intersection. The driver and passenger of the truck and the police officers involved were taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.
Martinez is being charged with obstruction of governmental administration and resisting arrest.
Police say Martinez has a lengthy criminal history.
