Police say a 5-year-old was stabbed and injured by a stranger in West Farms overnight.
The incident happened around 1 a.m. near East 180th Street and Daly Avenue. The child was walking with his mother when the man ran up from behind and stabbed the child, according to investigators.
Police say the man appeared to use a black-handled knife. The boy was stabbed in the lower back and suffered a puncture to his kidney.
The suspect, identified as 26-year-old Jesus Felix, was arrested early Sunday morning. He is charged with assault, criminal possession of a weapon and acting in a manner injurious to a child.
The child was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Jacobi and is expected to survive, News 12 was told.
