A disgruntled customer pulled a gun on a bodega worker in what the shop's owner says was an argument over 50 cents.
Police say surveillance video from the Habibi Deli on East Gun Hill Road shows 22-year-old Timothy Bohler trying to buy a drink on credit.
The owner of deli, Ali Alhadiss, says the suspect entered the store around 9:30 p.m. Thursday and began arguing with an employee. Bohler argued over money, and according to the owner, when he didn't get his way he began grabbing merchandise inside the store, knocking items over and throwing his drink at the cashier.
He was eventually chased out of the store by employees, but told them he would be back.
Police say Bohler returned to the deli with a gun.
Surveillance video appears to show Bohler pointing the gun at the cashier and brother of the store's owner, Omar Hudais.
The suspect than fled the store in a stolen car with an 18-year-old woman and was spotted by officers responding to the assault call.
Officials say they heard a gunshot and a gun was thrown from the vehicle. They say the suspect then stopped the car at Warning Avenue and Tiemann Avenue and fled on foot in the area. The passenger in the car was taken into custody, but was released without facing charges.
According to police, the weapon was recovered from the back seat of another vehicle parked near Bruner Avenue with a broken window.
Police say they are still searching for the suspect.
As a result of the incident Alhadiss says he is shortening the hours the bodega will remain open and is going to hire more workers. He says this decision is going to hurt the value of his store.
